Blogger is really frustrating me lately! So many gorgeous quilts! And, I am simply jealous! I have accomplished very little on the sewing front this year. But here is a little tour. <br />

Some pillows I made. One was gifted at Christmas, the other sits in my room. <br />
<br />
I made four travel blankets for our trip to Europe. I enjoyed having mine but they sure were a pain to carry through airports and train stations, despite the design that attached to luggage. <br />

I played around with making pot holders but the mistake I made was to quilt through all the layers. One can still get burned at the seams, so they mostly get used as hot pads for pans to sit on. Next time, I will quilt the top layer and then attach to the insulated batting. Otherwise, I really love them!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJWuH_6N6zL3F0iRZnkhVhM4LNGFezIUgs2pGytGXPvrbtD7QU-9gD-qLnwF409Y6qfc7iNoWsXgEwZrd1zYD9Z3YqocKJJ_I-cxtjukf07altLnimARYKhLYwMBKGG01zqisUQzA-Ii4/s1600/kitchen+curtains.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJWuH_6N6zL3F0iRZnkhVhM4LNGFezIUgs2pGytGXPvrbtD7QU-9gD-qLnwF409Y6qfc7iNoWsXgEwZrd1zYD9Z3YqocKJJ_I-cxtjukf07altLnimARYKhLYwMBKGG01zqisUQzA-Ii4/s320/kitchen+curtains.jpg" width="244" /></a></div>
<br />
I did redecorate my kitchen a little- nothing too major. These curtains were purchased and just had to be shortened. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL5Qz4z38ce_ccyYf5rk9hIzl8eKESIhAB7mz5a60mMGAt6qLVAllPNIUNsTIcSdvXJIFMNMPjYzi3bUyvgxIbmfB3Z5ClTPGa1OlZlcwaHbGYSSM2xtFdwhslcdeq6jMKwSGRm9E5ACU/s1600/scottie+-+Copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="305" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL5Qz4z38ce_ccyYf5rk9hIzl8eKESIhAB7mz5a60mMGAt6qLVAllPNIUNsTIcSdvXJIFMNMPjYzi3bUyvgxIbmfB3Z5ClTPGa1OlZlcwaHbGYSSM2xtFdwhslcdeq6jMKwSGRm9E5ACU/s320/scottie+-+Copy.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
And, I have worked on many projects that mostly remain in the construction phase. This is a block I made for Block Lotto. It went to that month's winner. <br />
I really love it but I WILL NEVER MAKE ANOTHER! <br />
I HATE paper piecing. <br />
So, there is my very unproductive year.<br />
<br />
Things I did accomplish:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>not killing my two teenagers- they are still around and I kinda like them....</li>
<li>family trip to Europe</li>
<li>took on some major extra duties at work</li>
<li>became the secretary of the Choir Board- my daughter is the President of her school choir & drama so I am doing all I can to help her out in her very busy senior year</li>
<li>lost almost 30 pounds since August</li>
<li>currently teaching my son to drive</li>
<li>currently the head of the Graduation committee at my school</li>
<li>Hosted most of the family Holiday Celebrations and Birthdays throughout the year</li>
<li>Kept my husband from beheading 4 poodles</li>
<li>ran a little and participated in one race</li>
<li>managed to keep a very MESSY house- no accomplishments there...</li>
</ul>
<div>
Goals for 2016</div>
<div>
<ul>
<li>Figure out this new Weight Watchers system so that it will work for me and I can continue on my weight loss journey</li>
<li>Get back to running & other forms of exercise- elliptical trainer, hiking, etc.</li>
<li>clean out the clutter this year</li>
<li>get my daughter situated for college in the Fall</li>
<li>get my son a driver's license before my daughter leaves in the fall- otherwise I will end up driving him to school every day- he goes out of district so no bus.</li>
<li>get my son a car before my daughter leaves with her's in the fall</li>
<li>get some UFOs finished!!!!- aiming for at least one per month, hopefully more!</li>
</ul>
<div>
MOST IMPORTANTLY- I AIM FOR ALL MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO HAVE A HAPPY, HEALTHY YEAR!</div>
</div>
<div>
Happy Stitching in 2016,</div>

Its with 3.5 inch strips rather than with 2.5 which would be a Jelly Roll Race.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYZr1cEVeRDvMyBtIGbHr_jo0uBJX_QGG0AQdqndPe8b48UEI577qpEnFFKFL56g7viXaDDyW8J8DPTNaapTL2lk_8xJ317JuCWC8VognSLrTdc69d08eE8IpT5FcWSYrWbp8jhyphenhyphenlG8HA/s1600/IMG_3645.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYZr1cEVeRDvMyBtIGbHr_jo0uBJX_QGG0AQdqndPe8b48UEI577qpEnFFKFL56g7viXaDDyW8J8DPTNaapTL2lk_8xJ317JuCWC8VognSLrTdc69d08eE8IpT5FcWSYrWbp8jhyphenhyphenlG8HA/s320/IMG_3645.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
Here are my colors. Its actually an experiment. I used twice as much orange as the other colors so I am hoping for a mostly orange & somewhat modern look. <br />
After 2 hours, I only have it sewn into two rows. Not exactly a lightning speed race...<br />
<br />
I started with about 8 yards of fabric so I am expecting a big quilt top that I can trim to the size I want and use the left over pieces on the back. <br />
<br />
<br />

And here is a glimpse at the lovely weather outside my sewing room window. It was fun to look up from these bright colors to see big, fat flakes falling. <br />
<br />
Earlier today, I sat down and made a list of some of the most pressing quilt projects that are started and I hope to get finished this year. I have come up with 28 so far without even looking through the mess in the sewing room. <br />
<br />
Right now I think I will start some laundry and hop on the elliptical machine, since I am not being successful in following my Weight Watchers these past couple of weeks. Hope the motivation returns soon!Andra Gaylehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09834113374465446312noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6007885778558156388.post-39840039838257989602015-12-26T13:19:00.000-08:002015-12-26T13:19:07.945-08:00An end of the year finish<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Many of you have seen this quilt before. It has been sitting around here for years with no binding. I finally pulled it out and got it bound so that I could gift it to my brother for his January Birthday. It is made from Block Lotto blocks from years ago. <br />
<br />
I also got some new block lotto blocks done...<br />

One thing my teenage kids are getting for Christmas is a Spring Break trip to Disneyland- which they already know about. So, here is part of the gift preparation. I will write the number of days on before it goes under the tree. <br />
It started as an unfinished piece from Michael's. The mouse ears on the metal are magnets thanks to my glue gun. I will hopefully get a better picture on Christmas morning. <br />

There is just so much to do. But I did get a present made yesterday. One of the cousins said she was painting her room yellow and needed room decor to match so this is what she is getting along with some non yellow gifts...<br />

It took more time than I thought it would- as is usually the case-ALL DAY LONG! Which means I am that much farther behind today. So, I guess I better get moving...Andra Gaylehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09834113374465446312noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6007885778558156388.post-66287861035452513642015-11-28T09:39:00.001-08:002015-11-28T09:39:14.029-08:00Catch UpI am catching up on blogs today. I am so far behind, have done NO SEWING and almost no crochet. However, I have lost 25 pounds since August, so that is something...<br />
Here is what is happening around our house in the last few days. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXCyW5loTtm1ZOnFVecgyAh98Kv-sP9IsEkEdvFRg9f35j8IjI9nHROFVESvh9jdTFGMdaqSUksTPof_7xlWE45qDrMdNLGJ1rhe82KAGVUDKrSH78_wwX_UKWNmKNUlC85BnoHrzQidE/s1600/IMG_3536.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXCyW5loTtm1ZOnFVecgyAh98Kv-sP9IsEkEdvFRg9f35j8IjI9nHROFVESvh9jdTFGMdaqSUksTPof_7xlWE45qDrMdNLGJ1rhe82KAGVUDKrSH78_wwX_UKWNmKNUlC85BnoHrzQidE/s320/IMG_3536.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Jack stakes his claim in front of the Christmas Tree before it is even decorated. Last year we only had 2 very small trees, up on top of the piano because he was a puppy. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOD3Kwcl5ixsmhyroeNOW3IkXLURFfp_veGdADzd2niQiJlxN1IcC1K4Env_4p9D6_Y6VtCeueKk7bwZsw_0jroy_TUa0smxK8hcHSmeI1a-a-J4LAHjtbJNsIxVbFZNUmi7p3dDayYpI/s1600/IMG_3537.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOD3Kwcl5ixsmhyroeNOW3IkXLURFfp_veGdADzd2niQiJlxN1IcC1K4Env_4p9D6_Y6VtCeueKk7bwZsw_0jroy_TUa0smxK8hcHSmeI1a-a-J4LAHjtbJNsIxVbFZNUmi7p3dDayYpI/s320/IMG_3537.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
The tree gets some completely unbreakable (Except for the Angel) decorations in case Jack decides to topple the whole thing. <br />

The small tree on the piano holds the treasured can't do without ornaments- lovebirds through out the years- I try to get one for us every year but they are sometimes hard to find- and some special family ones. Safe from the bull like poodle. <br />
<br />
I can't believe it is already that time of year again. I have been very un-crafty this year so there won't be many, if any, handmade gifts this year. Perhaps next year will be better. The trick will be getting my sewing room cleaned out enough for me to get in the door. <br />
<br />
I still need to finish that Halloween costume sweater I have been working on...<br />
<br />
Happy sewing everyone,Andra Gaylehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09834113374465446312noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6007885778558156388.post-85945095810487544842015-09-26T23:53:00.000-07:002015-09-26T23:53:22.651-07:00CrochetSome late night learning...<br />

Ok, so its not fabulous but it is ok and that is good enough. <br />
The teachers at my school have all decided to dress up as a Harry Potter characters for Halloween. Being the librarian, I can't skip out on a book/movie themed plan, so, I decided I wanted to be Mrs. Weasley. I love her!<br />
So, in searching for ideas for my costume, I came a cross these pictures...<br />

YES! That is the perfect costume! I LOVE that sweater. I knew I would not be able to buy one from a store so I started looking on ETSY. You definitely can buy one on ETSY to the tune of about $400 and the time for the person to make it. So, I decided it was past time for me to learn this crochet stuff. I have yet to finish a crochet project that I have started!<br />
My husband just kinda laughed at me when I said I was ordering the pattern from ravelry.com. <br />
<br />
Not only do I have to finish the sweater by October 30th to wear to school, I also have to make me one of those fabulous aprons! And wash it about 50 times to make it look worn out :) <br />
<br />
I am still wondering if I will get a wig or if Mrs. Weasley will have a nice short haircut. My hair is currently about that color- a little more brown, but it is short. I will have to think about that one because I do not like wigs!<br />
<br />
I bought the fabric for my Oklahoma Backroads border today. Maybe you will see a picture of the flimsy soon...Andra Gaylehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09834113374465446312noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6007885778558156388.post-81629161563733306332015-08-22T18:07:00.001-07:002015-08-22T23:42:37.194-07:00Saturday StitchingI basically locked myself in the sewing room today. Turned on the 80s tunes and jammed. <br />

I cranked out these 9 BlockLotto blocks, using my Tri-Rec rulers. It went smoother than I thought it would. I only made two mistakes the whole time!<br />

Here are some of them up close. I am amazed that the points all look great! YAY!<br />
<br />
I also worked on my Oklahoma Back Roads quilt, hoping to get the top put together. I thought I had all the blocks sewn together. However, after sewing lots of rows, I found that I was three rows short! That's 30 blocks! What happened to 30 of my blocks??? I started making them after searching for them with no luck. I am pretty sure they are hiding in a corner of my sewing room somewhere but I couldn't find them. No top finished today after all, darn-it!Andra Gaylehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09834113374465446312noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6007885778558156388.post-61360332129343351282015-08-09T14:39:00.002-07:002015-08-09T14:39:12.129-07:00Sunday Stitching<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Sorry for the dark picture- an effect of the sun coming in...<br />
I finally got my kitchen curtains hemmed so the kitchen refresh is complete. I actually want some curtain tie backs but until I find just what I want, this will have to do...<br />
<br />
Working on putting rows together for a quilt for my bed but got antsy. I may go cut out a new leader/ender project...<br />
<br />
I have a busy week at work since school starts Wednesday and I am in charge of the textbooks as well as my usual library responsibilities. Wish I had about another month of pure patchwork & quilting time!<br />

I will post some very general rules for participation if I get at least five participants. We would need to start soon to have them finished and delivered by the end of August. <br />
Just send me your name and email address along with a message to let me know you are interested.<br />

I did get my front door painted this week. I have just had the paint for about 2 years...<br />
The large terra cotta pot got a few coats of red as well. So, my entry is pretty much refreshed. I still need to sweep and get a new welcome mat and maybe a wreath.<br />

Here is an up close of the bird cage at the door.<br />
<br />
I have also been working on some shelves for my kitchen refresh as well. Hopefully I will get them finished and hung up tomorrow. If so, I will post pics. I am in panic mode to get this all done since I start back to school on Monday. Students still have almost 2 weeks until they start but there is all kinds of meetings and registration to get through before then. <br />
<br />
<br />

<br />Now, I have all sorts of UFOs- more than I can ever finish, I am sure. BUT- this quilt is calling to me!!!!! I even went as far as bought a few reds and neutrals to add to my stash in preparation. <br />
<br />
I wish that when I was binging on quilting, I could stop eating and loose a ton of weight. Wouldn't that be cool? <br />
<br />
Earlier this week, I also managed to get the inside of my car all vacuumed out and the interior all cleaned up. So, I have been busy but not in the sewing room. I have just had to fight the urge to ditch it all and go up there. Tomorrow, hopefully I will get a few minutes with my current project- Oklahoma Back Roads. I hope to have it put together as a quilt top in another week or so, even with going back to work. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-_TNbDzKVrIkMv_yeaXMfIBRXNHJiHKbjpZLkHVv2S37P2TXVoN5weObHWUYtiSBKGrcfUKK4L82hEWK17Ss9s8cEc2VjiS8BDi2lZtVXSVtQWIiXUscAdlaZa9TVUL0j1KdfVJsRbMM/s1600/cat.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="305" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-_TNbDzKVrIkMv_yeaXMfIBRXNHJiHKbjpZLkHVv2S37P2TXVoN5weObHWUYtiSBKGrcfUKK4L82hEWK17Ss9s8cEc2VjiS8BDi2lZtVXSVtQWIiXUscAdlaZa9TVUL0j1KdfVJsRbMM/s320/cat.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
The theme this month is pets. Most people have chosen to do an actual applique or pieced picture. I don't know how they have the time for that. However, traditional pieced blocks with pet fabric were an option so here are my cats.<br />
<br />
<br />
These are done using the 9 inch Quatrefoil block from Quilters Cache. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbL3jaVyh2lziGLf0NLDuCQbU0mQUTxc8W7l-rAhZlYF6ZcsOBb1YcBYb85iG_kQaLkadPrcg3Q7B7XBOcwxoPtx4Ws8DmzDTweWwZdbiMHnZl-LChJYYJMtZf1xH7nhl24tnEOu7L1Ww/s1600/horse.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbL3jaVyh2lziGLf0NLDuCQbU0mQUTxc8W7l-rAhZlYF6ZcsOBb1YcBYb85iG_kQaLkadPrcg3Q7B7XBOcwxoPtx4Ws8DmzDTweWwZdbiMHnZl-LChJYYJMtZf1xH7nhl24tnEOu7L1Ww/s320/horse.jpg" width="318" /></a></div>
And here is my horse block, because everyone needs a pet horse!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmX6NG0RRlGuZxn6_Ju6pblXGUWPaCxAeUMq4gzPyi2VgG2iDepNQmJV8X4S-HJlANa30iryqFzXfHmIl-Lw9xBZYFvsu_uVAPdcVRYoOl-Loh0_Dcfccsfj4KbDk1Q0pJou1z8kuCgDA/s1600/oklahoma+blocks.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmX6NG0RRlGuZxn6_Ju6pblXGUWPaCxAeUMq4gzPyi2VgG2iDepNQmJV8X4S-HJlANa30iryqFzXfHmIl-Lw9xBZYFvsu_uVAPdcVRYoOl-Loh0_Dcfccsfj4KbDk1Q0pJou1z8kuCgDA/s320/oklahoma+blocks.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I also pulled out a very old UFO. Oklahoma Backroads that I started years ago at a workshop with Bonnie Hunter. They are slow going but I think I might actually get all the blocks that I need done soon. I have the correct number of blocks started at least, at various stages of completion. I need 110 to do the same size as Bonnie did. I only have 28 blocks complete at this point. Hard to see here but I made two of these cute little doll carrier tote bags for my cousin's granddaughters. This is a rough and dirty tutorial but if you know how to quilt and sew, you should be able to follow it. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiP7HzMm4fudFsPDN8S_wAxIRy1fz0yqQmI6aUjG4VbkcoP-noPD_0bU1ENir8vnE2EAmJARtWclZwlaD6ZSYD4i1C21tqLfB7Iu138qv-W6zKac2pCp_SrsYI_asTgYAYfwEcDJ_FHpvQ/s1600/IMG_3024.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiP7HzMm4fudFsPDN8S_wAxIRy1fz0yqQmI6aUjG4VbkcoP-noPD_0bU1ENir8vnE2EAmJARtWclZwlaD6ZSYD4i1C21tqLfB7Iu138qv-W6zKac2pCp_SrsYI_asTgYAYfwEcDJ_FHpvQ/s320/IMG_3024.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Here they are finished. It was really very easy.<br />
First, I cut the bag fabric 36 by 14 inches. I used the baby doll as a guide as to how large I wanted the bag, then doubled the length. <br />
Then I quilted that, with no backing- the bag will be lined so it isn't needed. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6CsU7fR_fmR82lVbIhmHAGjahlhPUazAIscA0bGovE5yYSSGPIQRolKEEJiaTEDXdfKAw8tIe1fW5eut876vlYpzNxsD4n-3gu0Uh6vNtowaEzsuOv-FEY7keuajNf5dX-4zfO8_V7BU/s1600/IMG_3012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6CsU7fR_fmR82lVbIhmHAGjahlhPUazAIscA0bGovE5yYSSGPIQRolKEEJiaTEDXdfKAw8tIe1fW5eut876vlYpzNxsD4n-3gu0Uh6vNtowaEzsuOv-FEY7keuajNf5dX-4zfO8_V7BU/s320/IMG_3012.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9dwxRwNZaa7pCFoXZZQ_t7pl09Dszm4pzkIB5VJsHQQqVaAazrPrdgMhbYSFAqapX7PpgpnNQNjI6zdLhyphenhyphen_flEFxNhc_yfz5_5Icg9mXwLz8rIEZBQcH1ZqlqxP87RnrfCpIEcarXB0U/s1600/IMG_3010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9dwxRwNZaa7pCFoXZZQ_t7pl09Dszm4pzkIB5VJsHQQqVaAazrPrdgMhbYSFAqapX7PpgpnNQNjI6zdLhyphenhyphen_flEFxNhc_yfz5_5Icg9mXwLz8rIEZBQcH1ZqlqxP87RnrfCpIEcarXB0U/s320/IMG_3010.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I then cut a pocket for one side- 2 squares, 14 inches by how ever deep you want it. (I embroidered the name on the bag before I created the pocket) I did about a 15 inch pocket, sewed them together on one side for the finished edge (right sides together and then pressed and opened to right sides with a top-stitched seam for finishing) Then I folded the bottom over to make the pocket the correct length, sewed it to one side of the quilted piece and trimmed the raw edge. I left it raw but it is okay because it is in the inside of the pocket..<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This section is a shorter pocket piece- 14 for the width of the bag by about 8 inches tall. I quilted it with just backing and then trimmed my lining to include openings for the doll's legs. I just used the doll to measure how far apart to put the leg holes and how tall they needed to be. See the picture for the shape I chose. Then I sewed, right sides together, around the lining piece, leaving a hole for turning.<br />
Trim the corners and clip the curves, turn the piece, press, sew the hole closed (I just do this with top-stitching) and I attached it to the bag piece with top-stitching. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1BXPGAahEn3WVZ3RwuuzFE8GBHMdSKWysC7Rr3QqmynUwXKqLum5wnUpKFnq3Ga61jrQIbQOUd4iGhyphenhyphenTOH0IE6Vw0j_COaW4ZfsHxJFMs6GqoUg7YdelDNnBq9rzqd1X_1cAvKe5fNeo/s1600/IMG_3003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1BXPGAahEn3WVZ3RwuuzFE8GBHMdSKWysC7Rr3QqmynUwXKqLum5wnUpKFnq3Ga61jrQIbQOUd4iGhyphenhyphenTOH0IE6Vw0j_COaW4ZfsHxJFMs6GqoUg7YdelDNnBq9rzqd1X_1cAvKe5fNeo/s320/IMG_3003.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
I added some ribbon for trim. Note- my doll is a 15 inch baby doll. Your measurements may change if you are working with a different size doll. <br />
I also sewed the pocked closed along the ribbon edge to just under the doll arms for a snug fit. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLU_mlndKqrDlAdKrf2WFYQm2fLOU-RJrVIw9u9MoiOiY4AJ03c0a_vVGtlTzyUusxBeK7u5M4dp_On1m64EeA2tEa7VKSKotXdfwfi0fbMlbZqH3fTIXRcmqs1akZhMIT43SlFjf4DcY/s1600/IMG_3018.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLU_mlndKqrDlAdKrf2WFYQm2fLOU-RJrVIw9u9MoiOiY4AJ03c0a_vVGtlTzyUusxBeK7u5M4dp_On1m64EeA2tEa7VKSKotXdfwfi0fbMlbZqH3fTIXRcmqs1akZhMIT43SlFjf4DcY/s320/IMG_3018.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
At this point, sew the side seams of the bag- right sides together. I also sewed on a 25-30 inch strap. i cut a piece five inches wide by however long you think the strap needs to be, lined it with a 2.5 inch strip of batting for stability and top stitched it closed. I sewed one end to a front corner of the bag and one end to the opposite back corner of the bag- this will be a cross body bag. See the picture below. <br />
As you can see, I also added another strip of ribbon across the dolls chest for more stability. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiU4zbgW4KLHQ3LvFfqN3zTivV2WdXtyHiPWT4IahZcY1BKP9cqfaECZtbftTjGy4uxs7z2f_mZbkKhxXSOl_TqWR79gO8ZOcW67KlN9XR99KjWv5PnzYplC3TK7ReoOAomQbPPf_-F4WU/s1600/IMG_3013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiU4zbgW4KLHQ3LvFfqN3zTivV2WdXtyHiPWT4IahZcY1BKP9cqfaECZtbftTjGy4uxs7z2f_mZbkKhxXSOl_TqWR79gO8ZOcW67KlN9XR99KjWv5PnzYplC3TK7ReoOAomQbPPf_-F4WU/s320/IMG_3013.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
I sewed boxed corners on the bag. If you do not know how to do this, look it up on youtube- they explain it some much better than I could!!!!<br />
<br />
For the lining, you cut it the same dimensions as the tote, box the corners the same amount as the bag, turn it wrong side out and sew it, right sides together, to the tote. Be sure to get the handle tucked inside and leave a hole for turning. <br />
<br />
See below. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjX1CDByL21QzH43CEaQhBPXKpAvzj_C2r1_iLoDUujzMApeQ3evkFKBgarRGmzxbfmPQ3QPeV8rYt1ZjsSO0Rf7kG0y3mut51fT9Ek_GJu8s5JLnc3CeHeLWq-W3sjjmIZf5Q9JsM7nBQ/s1600/IMG_3020.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjX1CDByL21QzH43CEaQhBPXKpAvzj_C2r1_iLoDUujzMApeQ3evkFKBgarRGmzxbfmPQ3QPeV8rYt1ZjsSO0Rf7kG0y3mut51fT9Ek_GJu8s5JLnc3CeHeLWq-W3sjjmIZf5Q9JsM7nBQ/s320/IMG_3020.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
Note the boxed corners. <br />
I had to raise my machine up out of its table to sew this seam. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYHi9lu2-ZgsQslWAHAXLWot6jaUUP_E4-q-hiTu8lQ255dpaM-4_XQURQ7I5PFV5586Q_Lvx8cWVylsNyh9umTzGB2Li30w4nrpKoKsuKzc0GDQQ6qqDsa_r5Opgn10-fZyYVcgc8Cyg/s1600/IMG_3022.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYHi9lu2-ZgsQslWAHAXLWot6jaUUP_E4-q-hiTu8lQ255dpaM-4_XQURQ7I5PFV5586Q_Lvx8cWVylsNyh9umTzGB2Li30w4nrpKoKsuKzc0GDQQ6qqDsa_r5Opgn10-fZyYVcgc8Cyg/s320/IMG_3022.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Here is the hole that I left open for turning. After turning the bag, I then top-stitched around the bag to close the hole and give the bag a finished edge. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8qK2uGSp7XRTMFND2jU4uhJNJKsdzQmNAFy772buvwgVBSbhZHLjTHXUIDkZ3kpANIrJbAt7_Da26jtWypiLZWlxlxs-X0iPwj66cYzpHWn0rmZKq3w6EePFAHC61m2X2FImxohLGD04/s1600/IMG_3024.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8qK2uGSp7XRTMFND2jU4uhJNJKsdzQmNAFy772buvwgVBSbhZHLjTHXUIDkZ3kpANIrJbAt7_Da26jtWypiLZWlxlxs-X0iPwj66cYzpHWn0rmZKq3w6EePFAHC61m2X2FImxohLGD04/s320/IMG_3024.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
And here are the finished bags. I filled the inside with doll clothes and diapers that my mother made for them. I included diaper pins so that the straps could be pinned up to the correct length for the girls and adjusted as necessary. You could make the strap adjustable with "hardware" from the fabric store. <br />

Helping my son clean his room and moving in his new weight bench- double ewww!<br />
But then, the Opera! Rigoletto with my husband and lovely daughter- whose music teacher really wants her to seek Opera training rather than Musical Theatre. Wish us luck that she loves it!<br />
Hope you have a lovely day of stitching!Andra Gaylehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09834113374465446312noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6007885778558156388.post-32567314017809656492015-07-06T07:38:00.000-07:002015-07-06T07:38:11.854-07:00Back in the sewing saddle...maybeI have been so crazy busy for months, taking on new projects at work, traveling the world with my family, and just life in general. I am actually working on some sewing projects now though, hopefully I will have decent pictures to show eventually. Until then, allow me to share some of the things I have been up to...<br />

Last week my daughter went to prom...<br />
This week:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAAAJ6SkoCNbTOl7gxIxFVxc6CyvurIFScS1ZwBQ6qEu3iwwnv0sBxzrW6k7oD8TFkPk-z9mtvz429uyPy1M89z-GjHcldSCdRVNzIvBYVITJIusa18jCjcUNHbTv3f4TyxVvaCDHS2QA/s1600/kala7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAAAJ6SkoCNbTOl7gxIxFVxc6CyvurIFScS1ZwBQ6qEu3iwwnv0sBxzrW6k7oD8TFkPk-z9mtvz429uyPy1M89z-GjHcldSCdRVNzIvBYVITJIusa18jCjcUNHbTv3f4TyxVvaCDHS2QA/s1600/kala7.jpg" height="274" width="320" /></a></div>
She played Kala (Tarzan's Gorilla mom) in the Musical version of Tarzan. She had 6 songs and did an awesome job! She also designed most of the makeup, remade a spider costume, created props, painted the butterfly masks, and helped with hair and makeup, not to mention general tech crewing. I am not sure that she has eaten since prom night though. <br />
Today she has a piano recital and then we have to focus on getting her SAT and ACT scheduled, voice lessons set up for this summer and get her packed for a choir competition trip next week. Whew!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Kala and Kerchak- they had great stage chemistry and very believable "disagreements". They performed beautifully!<br />
<br />
And my son has finally found a basketball team that practices close to home so I am very excited to be watching him play again!<br />
So, you can see, there is no time for quilting...<br />

Here is my daughter's travel blanket, all finished and ready to go to California with her later this month, then on to Europe this summer. She loves Marvel Comics and, especially, captain America-yes, I did some fussy cutting.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLqPJFKRaWHGsbJs42UOMhDGEFGMlL5HQROYSUTgKHGsWFc-AvImxYF6h5eTHhXkPWdGp1W4_L2XXOt4IMKyhfmI2QkOCWP4tMupT_cqzHSMK0BmsIAHLyslNiIrHuyftulHjnu1CHL44/s1600/travel+blanket1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLqPJFKRaWHGsbJs42UOMhDGEFGMlL5HQROYSUTgKHGsWFc-AvImxYF6h5eTHhXkPWdGp1W4_L2XXOt4IMKyhfmI2QkOCWP4tMupT_cqzHSMK0BmsIAHLyslNiIrHuyftulHjnu1CHL44/s1600/travel+blanket1.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
First, I cut two pockets one about 18 inches square and the other about 18 X 16. Then did a quick 1 fold over hem on the top of each.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNKSbOPstVgiPH7COg71NoHzXWd3BaFkd_FO2tYz_0PDeT-7YdU1y5shQcmmj-E5a2AgumZ0cE11Uajo__OKnCISW1XdvQUi_3WFf7SOt3nIiWhQorcU71kkeHtKM-F3T7N_goWAYC6Jg/s1600/tb2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNKSbOPstVgiPH7COg71NoHzXWd3BaFkd_FO2tYz_0PDeT-7YdU1y5shQcmmj-E5a2AgumZ0cE11Uajo__OKnCISW1XdvQUi_3WFf7SOt3nIiWhQorcU71kkeHtKM-F3T7N_goWAYC6Jg/s1600/tb2.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
I just stitched it down with a long stitch & my walking foot.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFuYhq0XW5bygZY-XnN9Gg8Ww2OtrI-EIL3vjuq392pV_XsHpHu4NlgIC2EoeHSz1L19dEzFZ2Q7MQV3cnksiriB8g56T_62ct_EE8AGes5RrFoMfjohMyRhg9-2c9QC_MnvS6dDkmdVw/s1600/tb5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFuYhq0XW5bygZY-XnN9Gg8Ww2OtrI-EIL3vjuq392pV_XsHpHu4NlgIC2EoeHSz1L19dEzFZ2Q7MQV3cnksiriB8g56T_62ct_EE8AGes5RrFoMfjohMyRhg9-2c9QC_MnvS6dDkmdVw/s1600/tb5.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
Then I sewed the smaller pocket to the larger pocket front as pictured here. Then the larger pocket gets sewn, right sides together to the blanket. Fold the blanket, and the tuck it into the pocket by turning it right side out with the blanket in the inside. Then the pillow goes in the outside/smaller pocket, all held together with a loop of elastic that was sewn to the inside upper edge of the smaller pocket. Then the elastic loop just slips over the handle of your suitcase.<br />

Here is mine with a neck pillow in the front pocket instead of a rectangular pillow like the kids. I had to make the pocket deeper to accommodate the pillow. <br />
<br />
I also did some embroidery on the front of mine and my husbands which is not pictured here. His is purple and has a Coat of Arms embroidered on it. <br />

Here is mine on the suitcase handle. Try to ignore the messy cabinet behind- it houses my son's gaming console and is always a mess.<br />
<br />
I am really excited about how they turned out. I think my family is a little less enthusiastic, as they always are with my creations but I think they will be happy to have them on our overnight flight to Europe this summer.<br />
<br />
My daughter was very appreciative of how cuddly hers is. It felt really good but I tried really hard not to overdo it. Only went a little over a mile and a half. <br />
I still am hoping to make it to a 10K again by May 3rd so here is my plan. <br />
I have to run 4 times per week!<br />

I am absolutely going to have to start running at about 5:30 in the morning- not just for me but for Jack. Black poodles get very hot in the sun, very quickly! And here is the only HP block I finished today. Can you see the shimmery fabric for the Invisible Book of Invisibility?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
We had about 6 inches of snow as of around 10 am. It is almost all melted now and, so, we just have a wet mess. Gotta love winter in the desert. <br />
