Yeah! Another Finish!

My Baby Quilt Along is finally finished!
Good thing since the shower is tomorrow!

Here is the back and it has a satin blanket binding. 

Here is the quilting.  Hope you can see it. 



Now, to add it to my finished list- that may have to wait til tomorrow.

My husband has just toasted me a piece of his homemade cinnamon raisin bread- YUM!

Baby Quilt Along with borders

Okay, the blue border is cut at 2 and 1/2inches with 2 and 1/2 inch yellow squares in the corners and the outer border is cut at 4 inches with 4 inch squares in the corner.  I could give you measurements but I really suggest that you square up your center and measure it for accuracy.

I have not been thrilled about how bright this yellow is with the pastels but it matches the moons EXACTLY and everyone else tells me it is great.  So, I am going to trust others on this one and hope that the mom to be likes it.

I got it loaded onto Lizzie and 2 rows quilted tonight during my "Friday night sew in".


Tomorrow is looking like a full day but maybe I will get it finished.

I am quilting it with the same thread that I will be using on my cousin's queen size quilt so I wanted to do this one first to make sure I get the tensions right and everything.  I got really lucky, even though this thread is a different brand than I used on the last quilt, I didn't need to do any adjustments.  The tension was beautiful right off the bat! 

I know that if Bonnie had been making this pattern, she would have used string blocks or something in those larger squares and framing triangles and a scrappy border.  I bet it would look great that way but I just didn't have the time to put in to it.

However, my husband and I are debating me taking a leave of absence next year so that I can take care of some things with my family and my health (pushing maximum density here).  Maybe more quilting time will go along with that...???

Part 2 of Baby Quilt Along

My son and I went to the fabric store this morning and we decided that we wanted pink rather than light blue for the background.  So, here is what our center portion looks like on the design wall.

The center squares are cut at 8 1/2 inches-you need 6 of these. 
The 4 corner triangles are 6 1/2 inch squares that you cut on the diagonal 1 time like this...

The side setting triangles are cut from 12 1/2 inch squares cut on the diagonal twice, like this...
You need 10 of them.

I probably won't get mine pieced together until tomorrow. 
I am off to Basket Ball practice.  Then I have to go get a new cord for my Nook as mine is already broken-grr...

Quilt Along with me???

I didn't really want to start any new projects yet, wanted to focus on those UFOs but my son's history teacher, who is also my co-worker, is having a baby girl in March and with how slow I am working lately, that deadline is getting close...So, I decided I better get it started.

My son helped me design this on EQ7

He also chose the pink focus fabric which you will see below.
The quilt is about 45 X 55.  If you would like to join me, I would love to see what you make.


Here is the fabric you will need:
Pink- 1 an 1/4 yards 
Yellow- 7/8 yard (I used 2 different ones that are very similar)
Dark Blue corner squares-3/8 yard
Purple corner squares-1/8 yard
Light Blue back ground-1 yard

Cutting Directions for the 12 Nine patch blocks:
48 Dark blue squares- 2 1/2 inches square
48 yellow bricks- 4 1/2 X 2 1/2
12 center squares- 4 1/2 inces square

These go together really quickly! Sew 2 yellow bricks to opposite sides of the pink squares, two blue squares to the ends of half of the yellow bricks and them sew them together as pictured below.  I always, always pin to match up seams!

These blocks have different yellows.  One is a solid and one has a faint pattern which you can not see here.  They will blend perfectly in the quilt.

Here are the 12 blocks on my design wall.  The pink fabric was chosen by my son weeks ago.  The yellow and blue, I had in my stash.  I also have a scrap of purple for the outside corners.  However, I will have to go shopping tomorrow for a background which might be light blue or might be whatever else I find.

Step 2 will be tomorrow or Monday, depending on how easy it is to find a background that I like.
