I chose very traditional Americana fabrics for this little piece of patriotism. You will need about a fat quarter each of the red and the blue, 2 fat quarters of the natural or white, and a fat eighth of a gold print, sorry, not pictured here but you can see it below.
This quilt would look great with a more traditional red, white, blue combo or even with a multitude of red, white, and blue scraps!!!
Step 1- cut 8 natural/white strips and 8 red strips that measure 1.5" X 4.5" and sew together for the rail blocks as pictured. I actually strip pieced the four 1.5" strips together and then cut them to the 4.5" blocks.
Step 2- cut 5 gold and 5 blue squares 2.5" X 2.5" and sew together. Again, strip piece the blue and gold 2.5" strips together and then cut them to 2.5" if you prefer.
Step 3- sew each of these to a blue piece 2.5" X 4.5" to create the blue/gold block below. You will need 5 of them. Make sure they are all oriented the same direction as pictured.
I then added a red inner border that measured 1.5" wide.
Your center should now measure 14.5" X 14.5".
For the outer border, I cut the natural/white 2.5" by 14.5" long and sewed to opposite sides. 2 more strips of the same size get a 2.5" square of the blue fabric on each end. Sew on to the center and your flimsy top should look like this...
Now your flimsy is ready to sandwich and quilt as you desire. A great center piece for your Fourth of July table or to add to your quilt wall.
Let me know if you make one. I would LOVE to see it and even link it here if you like!
Oh! You snuck this one right by me....
